How to Obtain Services

At the Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development, we understand that seeking therapy services for your child can feel overwhelming. That’s why we’ve made the process as simple and straightforward as possible. Follow our step-by-step guide to get started and know that we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Quick Start Guide to Schreiber Therapy Services

Step 1: Recognize the Need

If your child is experiencing developmental delays, disabilities, or challenges that affect their ability to function independently, it may be time to seek professional help. Whether it’s physical, occupational, or speech-language therapy, we’re here to help your child reach their fullest potential.

Step 2: Contact Us

Contact our Family Support Coordinator at 717-393-0425 ext. 158. or by emailing jbachman@schreiberpediatric.org to start the process of scheduling an evaluation for services. The family support coordinator will ask you basic questions about your child to determine what their needs are and explain what is required to schedule the evaluation. Insurance information will be obtained at this time to ensure we accept your child’s healthcare plan, and we will provide you with a login for our client portal.

Step 3: Get a Referral

A doctor’s referral is required for all our therapy services. This can come from your child’s pediatrician, a family physician, or a specialist.

Step 4: Update Your Client Portal

Prior to your first visit we require your child’s medical history questionnaire and paperwork be completed in our Client Portal.

Step 5: Schedule Your Evaluation

Once the paperwork has been completed in the client portal and we have the prescription or referral from the doctor, our staff will contact you to schedule your child’s initial evaluation. Speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy evaluations are all scheduled separately.

Step 6: Attend Your Child’s Evaluation at Schreiber

Your first visit will include an orientation session with our Social Services and Family Support leader Jen Bachman and will go over our policies and procedures.  You will then meet with the evaluating therapist and discuss your child’s medical history, current challenges, and goals for therapy.  A goal plan will be developed at the initial evaluation.

Step 7: Begin Services

Once the evaluation process is complete, we’ll match your child with the appropriate therapist and begin ongoing therapy services. Your child’s therapy schedule will be customized to fit their specific needs, and we’ll work closely with you to ensure that they receive the best possible care.

Step 8: Stay Involved

We encourage parents to be actively involved in their child’s therapy. You’ll receive regular updates on your child’s progress, and we’ll work together to adjust their therapy plan as needed. Your support and involvement are key to your child’s success.
